MELO round 1 - selected favorites

Sixty-three people entered the Middle Earth LEGO Olympics. I've already featured all of the head-to-head pairings from the second round onwards, but only a couple from the qualifying round. There's no way I'm going to feature all sixty-three, so I'll just post a few personal favorites. This round was wide open, and builders were invited to build anything from the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings. Here are some based on random locations.

Flax Kikare gave this interpretation of the dwarven halls in the Ered Luin.

Justin M gave us a typical home in Hobbiton.

Derrick Rose's Unexpectexd Guest shows a nice little detail from Rivendell.

Kyle Ransom made his version of Radagast's home at Rhosgobel.

MELO round 2 - Barad Dur bracket part 1

Continuing on in our look back, round 2 of the MELO pitted 32 builders in head-to-head matches. I'll break this into four posts. Here's part 1 of the Barad Dur bracket.

Buurli Burri was pitted against Mister Lego with the category A Long Expected Party. I can't find Buurli Burri's MOC online any more, but he advanced.

Justin M was pitted against Poggle 55 with the category The Prancing Pony. Poggle 55 advanced.

Disco 86 built for the category Flight to the Ford, but his opponent did not enter. So Disco 86 advanced by default, but this was a really cool creation and he probably would have advanced regardless.

Kenton Lanier was pitted against Aidan Frusher with the category Fool of a Took!. Kenton Lanier advanced.

MELO octafinals - Orthanc bracket

Now let's look back at the Orthanc bracket of the MELO octafinals.

Kyle Ransom was paired off against Jackson Williams with the category Gollum and Smeagol. Kyle advanced.

LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist was paired off against Toa Infernum with the category Wraiths on Wings. IMO this was the toughest pairing to judge in this bracket, as both fell beasts were amazing, but LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist advanced.

Grant Davis was paired off against Matthew Oh with the category King of the Golden Hall. Matthew Oh advanced.

I was paired off against Jacob Nion with the category March of the Ents. Sadly, Jacob advanced, though as I noted previously, I can't disagree with the judges here. The fact that Jacob has gone on to the finals makes me feel that at least if I had to lose, I lost to one of the best.

Buurli Burri squared off against Poggle 55 with the category "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!". Buurli Burri advanced, but for some reason I can't find his entry. Maybe he deleted it?

Disco 86 squared off agaisnt Kenton Lanier with the category Passage of the Marshes. Disco 86 advanced

Justin Knelsen squared off agaisnt Martin Geistefeldt with the category Warg Riders. IMO this was the hardest decision of this round, as both entries are amazing and I don't know which way I would have voted, but Martin Geistefeldt advanced.br>

Dodge squared off agaisnt Derrick Rose with the category Helms Deep. Dodge advanced
